Fundraising Fridays have begun!

Last Friday, I received my first Fundraising Friday email of the season.  The email highlighted some of the tools available on RelayForLife.org, including a new e-Learning Fundraising 101 and a video specifying how your fundraising dollars are used in the fight against cancer:

Fundraising 101
Whether you are a new or veteran fundraiser, a refresher on the “how to’s” of fundraising can never hurt. Check out relayforlife.org, under the “Get Involved” tab. Click on “How To’s” and view the Fundraising 101 e-learning to help start your fundraising efforts on the right foot. Here's a direct link to it. Make sure your sound is on!

Set a date for a Team Meeting
Consider setting up a team meeting to have a group discussion about setting a team goal. You can show a video to help message the importance of the fundraising that they are doing and its critical impact on the fight against cancer. This Relay For Life video helps define the programs and services your hard-earned fundraising dollars support.

Not sure how to set a goal?
It’s easy! Start with this goal-setting tool and set a goal that is balanced and incorporates all types of fundraising.  What are the different kinds of fundraising, you ask?  Individual, team, online, and onsite!  And don't forget year-round as you are planning your team fundraisers - you can keep holding fundraisers all through the summer, even after your Relay event is over! Here are a few tips to help your team reach even greater success! Have fun with your fundraising efforts, and track your progress with this goal-setting thermometer.  (ETA - you should have a thermometer in your Team Captain's packet.  Let me know if you need a new one or extras!)

Game Night!

Choose a game that your group of friends likes to play such as bunko, dominos, or trivia, and invite everyone over for a night of fun. You can ask for a flat donation for the entire evening, or for games like cards or dominos, players can chip in $1 for every hand or round.  (ETA - you could expand this to a Wii games night too!)

Friday Fun Day!

Work for a large company or have a company team? Ask management if you can host a FRIDAY FUN DAY! Ask employees to participate by charging $5.00 to wear flip-flops, silly hats, or denim jeans! Have a pot-luck style lunch or ask management if they'd be willing to provide lunch for all participants who show their support for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer!

Zumba-Thon!

Fun, laughter, and Zumba moves! A fun-filled day of Zumba classes at a local gym can raise the bar on physical activity and fundraising. The Zumba instructor donates his or her time and participants pay a suggested donation of $20 per class. For one Relay, six classes in one day brought in approximately $1,200! It’s a great way to fundraise, raise awareness, and get in shape for the summer.  (ETA - I know a handful of Zumba teachers who were interested in this last year.  Let me know if you need any contacts.)
